The Women, Co-Occurring Disorders and Violence Study

The Women, Co-Occurring Disorders and Violence Study (WCDVS) was funded in 1998 as a 5-year initiative through collaboration between Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA’s) Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), and Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP).

The purpose of the study was to gain a greater understanding of the effects of integrating trauma treatment within traditional substance abuse and mental health settings for women 18 years of age and older. The study demonstrated that integrated, consumer-informed services can play a key role in recovery.
