Community Support Programs Branch

Science to Service Programs

For over a decade, the Community Support Programs (CSP) Branch has recognized the important relationship between science—the research community, and service—policymakers, program leaders, providers, consumers, and families. Science and service have critical roles for learning and informing the other. Further, there is an important role for the Center for Mental Health Services in helping the field identify, apply, and adapt knowledge learned through science.

The CSP Branch champions a variety of collaborative efforts and partnerships that specifically enhance the science to service relationship:

Resource Centers

The CSP Branch has provided support for a number of resource centers that provide technical assistance and other types of resources to various stakeholders including:

Grant Programs

The CSP Branch has several grant programs that support the science to service mission including:

  • Mental Health Transformation State Incentive Grants (MHTSIGs) Program
  • Science to Service Grant Program
  • Workforce Training Grants to Reduce Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Mental Health Services
  • State Implementation of Evidence-Based Practices Grant Program
  • Knowledge Dissemination Conference Grant Program

Partnerships

The CSP Branch supports partnerships that enhance the science to service cycle between Federal and non-Federal stakeholders. Together with the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD), four regional meetings are being sponsored aimed at enhancing partnerships between Federal, state, and local mental health agencies, researchers, service providers, and consumers.

Best Practice Resources

Since 2000, the CSP Branch has funded the development of a number of Evidence-Based Practice KITs (formerly known as the Evidence-Based Practices Implementation Resource Kits) to help develop the capacity for widespread use of evidence-based practices (EBPs) within the public mental health system. Several EBP KITs are available to the public. Additional KITs are in production. In addition, in partnership with the Department of Education’s National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation and Research (NIDRR), the CSP Branch supports two Rehabilitation Research and Training Centers (RRTCs), which conduct research, training, and dissemination projects.
