  • Center for Asbestos Related Disease
    Most event-focused disasters occur suddenly with a defined beginning and an end. However, there is another type of disaster, one with a subtle onset and a potentially lifelong course, caused by exposure to a toxic agent. These events are referred to as technological disasters or more specifically, Slow Motion Technological Disasters. This Web site includes information on both types of technological disasters, slow motion and event-focused.
  • Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress
    The Center is working to increase knowledge of the consequences of trauma and disaster and to apply this knowledge to helping people cope with traumatic events. The Center provides education, consultation and training to our nation and its communities on the effects of trauma and disaster and individual and organizational recovery following these events while maintaining a wide-ranging, vigorous research program to extend our knowledge of the consequences of event-related stress.
  • Center for Trauma Response, Recovery and Preparedness
    The Center for Trauma Response, Recovery and Preparedness is a collaborative initiative of the University of Connecticut Health Center, Yale University School of Medicine, Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, and the Connecticut Department of Children and Families. The Center prepares behavioral health providers to safely and effectively meet the needs of people affected by critical incident trauma in the immediate and long-term aftermath through training and technical assistance.
  • Department of Homeland Security
    In the event of a terrorist attack, natural disaster or other large-scale emergency, the Department of Homeland Security will assume primary responsibility for ensuring that emergency response professionals are prepared for any situation.
  • Federal Emergency Management Agency
    The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is an agency of the federal government. FEMA's mission is to reduce loss of life and property and protect our nation's critical infrastructure from all types of hazards through a comprehensive, risk-based, emergency management program of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.
  • National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
    The National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder's (NCPTSD) mission is to advance the clinical care and social welfare of America's veterans through research, education, and training in the science, diagnosis, and treatment of PTSD and stress-related disorders. Their website provides educational resources concerning PTSD and other enduring consequences of traumatic stress.
  • National Child Traumatic Stress Network
    The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) is funded by the Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and jointly coordinated by UCLA and Duke University. Their mission is to raise the standard of care and improve access to services for traumatized children, their families and communities throughout the United States.
  • Sidran Institute
    The Sidran Institute is a nationally-focused nonprofit organization devoted to helping people who have experienced traumatic life events. This Web site includes a number of resources related to traumatic stress.
