About ![]() |
What is National Social Work Month? National Social Work Month is an annual observance, celebrated in March, which draws attention to the efforts of professional social workers who strive to improve society by working with, and advocating for, individuals in need of help with life's challenges. What is the theme of this year's observance? The theme for this year's National Social Work Month is "Life’s Journey: Help Starts Here." This year’s focus is on aging and the emerging issue of aging in the practice and profession of social work. The theme was chosen to celebrate the efforts of social workers who help their clients through many of life’s journeys. What is the purpose of this observance? The annual celebration of National Social Work Month provides an opportunity to pay tribute to professional social workers and their commitment to society. Showing appreciation for the work of such dedicated professionals is a critical part of supporting and encouraging their roles as educators, advocates, and researchers. Professional social workers have been making a valuable contribution to society for more than a century. The National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world, credits these professionals with preserving rights and strengthening voices for people who are vulnerable, oppressed, or living in poverty. Social workers have helped millions of people challenge their circumstances and change their lives. |
