The NIMH is the Federal agency that conducts research on the causes, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders. The web site provides information about current events, clinical trials, funding opportunities, and research for state and other federal agencies, the public, practitioners, and researchers.

The PRC conducts interdisciplinary research on services for individuals with severe mental illness, primarily schizophrenia spectrum and bipolar disorders. PRC current areas of research include implementation of evidence-based practices, vocational rehabilitation/supported employment, services for homeless individuals, integrated treatment of co-occurring substance abuse, services for the elderly, trauma and post traumatic stress disorder, HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases, and methodology of services research.

The National GAINS Center for People with Co-Occurring Disorders was created as a national center for the collection and dissemination of information about effective mental health and substance abuse services for people with co-occurring disorders in contact with the justice system. The National GAINS Center is supported by the Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) and the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment.
