Jacki McKinney, M.S.W.
Jacki is one of the program managers of NCTIC focused on consumer program
development. She is a national advocate and consultant to numerous social
policy and research groups as well as federal agencies. As director and co-founder
of the National People of Color Consumer/Survivor Network, Jacki focuses on
the intergenerational effects of mental illness, trauma, and violence. She
also works to facilitate understanding of discrimination against people of
color in relation to consumer services. A survivor of trauma, addiction, homelessness,
and the psychiatric and criminal justice systems, Jacki's inspiring story
of triumph over adversity has been heard by audiences nationwide. Jacki has
been honored by the Clifford Beers Award by the National Mental Health Association
for her work on mental health issues.
Jacki McKinney’s expert areas include: intergenerational mental illness, trauma and violence; discrimination in consumer services; the healing process;
the impact of trauma; the impact of trauma on families; struggles often encountered in healing and seeking justice; and the importance of trauma-informed care.
