A New Year for NCTIC!

Growing the National Network for Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) Transformation

The National Center for Trauma-Informed Care is instrumental in facilitating awareness and expertise on the implementation of traumainformed care (TIC). NCTIC is guided by the fundamental beliefs that (1) people with lived experience of trauma can recover and heal, (2) TIC is the key to promoting health and recovery; and (3) the leadership and integration of consumer/survivors into TIC program implementation is fundamental in bringing about program efficacy and effectiveness for both program staff and for people seeking services.

In its first two years, NCTIC has responded to an extraordinary number and range of systems and programs requesting technical assistance and consultation to implement TIC. This experience has prepared NCTIC to be poised, in its 3rd year, to address two major priorities: 1) TIC integration into state mental health system transformation; and 2) TIC integration that incorporates peer leadership in trauma integration teams.

Some new and exciting steps forward from NCTIC in the year ahead include:

  • the creation of a national NCTIC Leadership and Policy Council;
  • the creation of a national TIC Peer Leadership Steering Workgroup;
  • technical assistance and consultation to state mental health authorities/systems and community programs on TIC implementation strategies;
  • technical assistance to consumer/survivors and peer groups to spark leadership in developing, monitoring, and evaluating TIC implementation;
  • establishment of a learning community for knowledge exchange of evidence-based practices and emerging promising practices in TIC; and
  • strong initiatives to grow networking and engagement initiatives with TIC stakeholders across the health, mental health, and social services spectrum.

Stay tuned to learn more about these new efforts and others in the weeks ahead.

Please also note that CMHS has awarded a new contract to National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD) to support NCTIC.
