Family Risk Factors

Over Three-Quarters of the Families Had Experienced at Least One Family Risk Factor

Of the responding families, 76 percent identified at least one family risk factor. Of these, 19 percent identified one risk factor. The highest reported risk factors were history of substance abuse (61 percent), history of violence (53 percent), and history of mental illness (43 percent) (see Figure ES-17). Nineteen percent identified two risk factors, and 38 percent identified three or more risk factors (see Figure ES-18).
