    Disaster Crisis Counseling

    The Emergency Services and Disaster Relief Branch, CMHS, is in contact with Arkansas, Ohio and Indiana related to the recent tornadoes and flooding disasters and are working with the state departments of mental health in developing disaster crisis counseling programs. For information contact CMHS consumer affairs at (301)443-9824. The National Mental Health Information Center has a number of emergency and disaster assistance publications, including Responding to the Needs of People with Serious and Persistent Mental Illness in Times of Major Disasters; Disaster Response and Recovery: A Handbook for Mental Health Professionals; and Training Manual for Human Service Workers in Major Disasters. Contact the Information Center for copies of these booklets and others.
