    Where to Turn
Alternatives '98 Set for Long Beach

Long Beach, Calif., is the site for the Alternatives 98 conference, sponsored by the National Empowerment Center, in cooperation with the NEC-West and Project Return: The Next Step, a Long Beach consumer/survivor-run group.

The conference will be held at the Sheraton Long Beach Hotel on February 12-15, 1998. Conference announcements and a call for proposals will be distributed in September 1997. Workshop tracks are: promoting diversity, organizing for change, recovering and personal growth, and knowing rights and making policy.

Conference organizers are also working on keynote speakers and special events. One confirmed keynoter will be Irit Shimrat, the noted Canadian author and activist, whose new book, Call Me Crazy, has received excellent reviews.
