Consumer-operated Self-help Programs to be Studied

SAMHSA/CMHS is preparing an announcement of the availability of funds for a program study designed to enhance knowledge about how consumer-operated self-help programs contribute to the rehabilitation and recovery of individuals with serious mental illness.

A meeting was held in April by the Community Support Program and Consumer Affairs Staff to attain suggestions on this announcement. Meeting participants included consumers/survivors and self-help researchers. It is hoped that this major initiative will help document the effectiveness of consumer- operated services - particularly in the context of managed mental health care.

This Guidance for Applicants (GFA) will solicit applications for two types of cooperative agreements; study sites and a coordinating center.
