The following list of Web sites does not imply endorsement by CMHS or the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services of the external Web site's content or the views and opinions of the external Web site's sponsoring organization.
- Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Established in December 1989 (Public Law 101-239). AHCPR is the lead agency charged with supporting research designed to improve the quality of health care, reduce its cost, and broaden access to essential services.
- American Managed Behavioral Healthcare Association (AMBHA). Founded in 1994 to enable the leading organizations in the behavioral healthcare industry to work together on key issues of public accountability, quality, public policy, and communication.
- Center for Health Care Strategies, Inc. Established in 1995 as a non-profit, non-partisan policy and resource center affiliated with Princeton University. The Center serves as the National Program Office for two national initiatives of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation: Medicaid and Managed Care Program and Building Health Systems for People with Chronic Illnesses. The Center's web site on Medicaid managed care is supported with a grant from the Casey Foundation.
- Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Federal agency that administers the Medicare, Medicaid, and Child Health Insurance Programs.
- CentraLink. Provides executive education for the behavioral healthcare industry.
- CMHC Systems. A leading provider of comprehensive information systems, including UNIX-based management information systems (MIS) and hardware configurations, serving the mental health community for over 18 years.
- Families USA. A national nonprofit, non-partisan organization dedicated to the achievement of high-quality, affordable health and long-term care for all Americans.
- Health Affairs. Published by Project HOPE. Project HOPE, established in 1958, is an international health education foundation providing health policy research and analysis, training for health care professionals, and consultations in health systems planning and development. Health Affairs is a leading journal of health policy and managed care.
- Human Services Research Institute (HSRI). Established in 1976 to assist states and the federal government to enhance services and provide support to people with mental illness and people with mental retardation, and to support the development of alternatives to congregate care facilities.
- Institute for the Advancement of Human Behavior, Inc. (IAHB). The Institute for the Advancement of Human Behavior (IAHB), is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization. IAHB is a fully accredited sponsor of continuing education and continuing medical education for mental health, chemical dependency and substance abuse treatment providers in the United States and Canada.
- Medicare Compare. Provides easy access to information about Medicare managed care plans, including costs, premiums, and types of services provided.
- Mental Help Net. Accessed through CMHC Systems. Created in September 1995 as a free service to the worldwide mental health community of professionals and laypeople.
- National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI). National network of people working to improve the lives of all affected by serious mental illnesses (such as depression, bipolar disorder or manic depression, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, and panic disorder).
- National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD). Advocate for the collective interests of State Mental Health Authorities and their directors at the national level. NASMHPD analyzes trends in the delivery and financing of mental health services and builds and disseminates knowledge and experience reflecting the integration of public mental health programming in evolving healthcare environments.
- National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). Private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to assessing and reporting on the quality of managed care plans.
- National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare. Founded in 1970 to implement a vision and set of beliefs through membership, advocacy, and education.
- National Health Law Program. National public interest law firm that seeks to improve health care for America's working and unemployed poor, minorities, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
- OPEN MINDS. Founded in 1987 (under the name, Behavioral Health Industry News, Inc.) OPEN MINDS, The Behavioral Health Industry Analyst, is a monthly newsletter. OPEN MINDS also publishes information on behavioral health topics, operates a fax information service, develops professional education programs, and provides consultation services.
- Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Mission is to assure that quality substance abuse and mental health services are available to the people who need them and to ensure that prevention and treatment knowledge is used more effectively in the general health care system.
