A line graph showing the expenditures per capita by type of mental health organization from 1969 to 2002, in current dollars. Expenditures per capita by all other mental health organizations increased rapidly until 1998, then declined. Expenditures per capita by State and county hospitals, private psychiatric hospitals, non-Federal general hospitals, and VA medical centers increased through the mid-1980s, leveled off, then began declining in the mid-1990s. Expenditures per capita at residential treatment centers steadily increased between 1969 and 2002.
