A line graph showing the expenditures per capita by type of mental health organization from 1969 to 2002, in constant dollars. There was a steady decline in per capita expenditures by State and county hospitals and VA medical centers. There was rapid growth in per capita expenditures by all other mental health organizations until 1998, followed by a steep decline. Residential treatment centers steadily and gradually increased per capita expenditures. Both private psychiatric hospitals and non-Federal general hospitals increased their per capita expenditures until 1990, then decreased those expenditures.
