A bar graph showing the distribution of treatment episodes that received less than 24-hour care at the types of mental health organizations. In 1955, 80 percent of less-than-24-hour treatment episodes were at all other mental health organizations, 11 percent were at VA medical centers, and 9 percent were at State and county hospitals. In 2002, 69 percent of less-than-24-hour treatment episodes were at all other mental health organizations, 12 percent were at non-Federal general hospitals, 8 percent were at private psychiatric hospitals, 6 percent were at residential treatment centers, 3 percent were at VA medical centers, and 2 percent were at State and county hospitals.
