- Today, an estimated 33.4 million people worldwide are living with
HIV/AIDS.
- Approximately 43% of adults living with HIV/AIDS worldwide
are women, and this percentage is growing.
- One in every 3 children orphaned by HIV/AIDS worldwide is under
age 5.
- AIDS is now the 5th leading cause of death in the U.S.
among people between the ages of 25 and 44.
- One half of all new HIV infections in the U.S. are diagnosed in
those under age 25.
- Over 60% of new AIDS cases in the U.S. occur among minorities.
Forty-five percent are among Blacks and 21% are among Hispanics.
- Among persons with HIV infection, adjustment disorder and depression
are the most common mental disorders.
