A bar graph showing the lifetime prevalence of five mood disorders by sex. Overall, 14.5 percent of women and 8.4 percent of men had suffered some type of mood disorder, and each type of disorder was more prevalent among women than men. The most common disorder for both women (11.2 percent) and men (6.0 percent) was major depressive episode.
