A bar graph showing the lifetime prevalence of mood disorders by sex and level of education. Overall, women who did not complete high school had the highest incidence of any mood disorder (18.0 percent), while men with some college education had the lowest incidence of any mood disorder (7.4 percent). A major depressive episode occurred most often among women with a high school education (13.0 percent) and least often among men with a high school education (5.4 percent). Dysthymia occurred most often among women who did not complete high school (12.6 percent) and least often among men with some college (1.9 percent).
