A line graph showing the number of treatment beds per 100,000 civilian population that were added by 24-hour mental health organizations between 1969 and 2002. The largest rate of growth was among non-Federal general hospitals. There was a steady decline in the rate of growth at State and county hospitals. The rate of growth at private psychiatric hospitals and all other mental health organizations increased between 1969 and 2002, while the rate of growth remained fairly flat at VA medical centers and residential treatment centers.
