Adults entering inpatient programs most often had personal referrals (self, family, or friend), followed by referrals from an outpatient setting, a community setting, then another inpatient/residential setting. Adults receiving outpatient treatment (i.e., care for less than 24 hours) most often had personal referrals, followed by referrals from a community setting, another outpatient setting, then an inpatient/residential setting.
