Integrating Evaluation into the Program
Evaluation should be a routine part of program
operations. Evaluation should involve program staff and stakeholders in
gathering information for improving the program. Most routine evaluation
efforts can guide small changes in programs. With appropriate resources,
pilot-testing, and good record keeping, information to evaluate the
effects of a program will develop naturally. When the purpose of the
evaluation is to assist in making significant decisions, evaluation
procedures need to be more extensive and formalized. Criteria for
assessing the program’s success should be determined as part of planning
before the program is implemented. The following aspects should be
considered:
- A pilot-test of all the program’s plans,
procedures, activities,and materials
- Criteria for knowing if the program is working and
being delivered as planned
- A system for gathering information
